Recognize what you want to see:

Use the skill:
If your child comes to you very upset and crying, focus on reflecting the main points. Maybe say “Something happened!” if you can’t understand exactly what they’re saying.
- Purpose: All children have scary experiences. When you don’t know what to say, reflecting can help calm them and you. It gives you information and time to figure out what is going on and how to help.
