Recognize the behavior:
Refuses to leave a friend’s house when it’s time to go home.
Identify what you want to see:
Saying goodbye and leaving the house.
Use the Skill:
You could say, “Let’s redo. When you come out, then we will decide what to do next.” or, “Seems like a good time for a do-over. When I tell you it’s time to leave, that means it is time to leave.”
-
Purpose:
-
A redo gives children a chance to do something again in a better way. Before you give a command and consequences, use your other skills and try a redo. Take a moment and a deep breath. Then in a calm and somewhat playful voice, give your child a chance to do what you want them to do.
Remember that a redo is most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
