Using effective commands for
Recognize the behavior:
Takes too long to get dressed.
Identify what you want to see:
Picking out clothes quickly.
Use the Skill:
Add “right away” or “quickly” to your effective commands. For example, “Please get dressed quickly.”

Purpose:

Effective commands tell your child that something needs to be done right now. Add the word "quickly" to address stalling or delaying. Note that "get dressed" can be too big of a command for some children. You might need to break the task down into smaller tasks. For example, "Please put on your shirt. Great job listening! You got it on so quick. Now please put on your pants." If you give a command, you should be ready to follow through with consistent consequences.
Remember that effective commands are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
