Using effective commands for
Recognize the behavior:
Gets out of chair repeatedly.
Identify what you want to see:
Staying in the chair.
Use the Skill:
If your child is able to comply and you want to use a command, you could say “Please sit in your chair”.

Purpose:

Before you give a command, think about whether your child has the physical and emotional ability to do what you want them to do. If your child is tired, bored, or has a high activity temperament, they are going to have a harder time staying in their chair. If your child is upset, a command to sit in the chair will likely cause more anger and frustration. In these cases, other strategies will be more helpful than commands. If you give a command, you should be ready to follow through with consistent consequences.
Remember that effective commands are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
