Recognize what you want to see:
Sticking with it, staying calm, coming up with new ideas, trying again.
Use the skill:
Show your child the benefit of trying again. For example, “When you calmed down, you figured it out!” “When you try something new, it can turn out even better.”
-
Purpose:
Show your child the value of trying new things with when-then statements.
You can also let your child know it's ok to take a break. For example, "if you want to pause, we can have a snack." "When we break, we often come up with new ideas."
