Using when-then & if-then statements for

Carefully holding your phone.
Use the Skill:
Follow up your praise for being careful with a when-then statement. For example, “When you are careful, I’m happy to let you play on my phone.”

Purpose:

When-then & if-then statements show children what happens when they make certain choices. You can use when-then statements to remind your child of the good things that happen when they are careful. If you notice carelessness, you might explain both positive and negative consequences. In the phone example, you could say, "When you are careful, you can play on my phone; but if you drop it again, I will have to take it away."
Remember that when-then & if-then statements are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
