Using rules for
Recognize the behavior:
Takes too long to get dressed.
Identify what you want to see:
Picking out clothes quickly.
Use the Skill:
You might set a rule like, “The rule is you have 10 minutes to get dressed. If you get dressed in 10 minutes, we can play a game. If it takes longer, we can’t play a game.”

Purpose:

Rules help children know what they have to do. They have clear positive and negative consequences. You can set rules about how long children have to finish a task. But, other skills like transitions, descriptions, modeling, when-then statements, and effective commands are usually more helpful than rules for stalling and delaying.
Remember that rules are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
