Recognize what you want to see:
Being respectful and kind, doing something with a good attitude
Use the skill:
Try a rule for respect like, “The rule is to speak to each other with respect. If you speak respectfully, the other person will listen to your concerns and try to problem-solve. If you speak disrespectfully, you will lose your phone for the next 15 minutes.”

Purpose:
Strategic attention and when-then statements are usually better than rules for changing an attitude. If your child is very disrespectful and the other skills don't work, you could make a rule. Just remember that everyone in the house needs to follow the rule.
