Using reflections for
Recognize the behavior:
Hits or bites a sibling who took their toy.
Identify what you want to see:
Staying calm and asking for help when the sibling takes the toy.
Use the Skill:
If your child says “They took my toy!”, reflect them. For example, “They did take it.” Then praise for telling you.

Purpose:

Reflecting lets your child feel heard and know they have your attention. Remember only to reflect positive or appropriate words. In this situation, reflecting lets your child know you will listen when they ask for help. They learn to ask for help instead of hitting.
Remember that reflections are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
