Using strategies to calm down when upset.

Use the Skill:
Quietly imitate any calming strategies your child uses. Don’t imitate a tantrum.
-
Purpose:
-
Imitation shows you notice your child's good behaviors. This makes your child want to keep doing what they're doing. If you imitate a tantrum, they will tantrum more. Imitate any calming skills they use. After a tantrum, imitate calm play before trying to talk about what happened.
Remember that imitation is most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
