Describe your child’s behaviors before they get upset. For example, “You are working to fit those pieces together.”

Purpose:

Descriptions help a child focus on the current activity and stay calm. This can prevent a tantrum. After a tantrum, descriptions are a good way to start talking to your child again. Descriptions do not force for child to respond. They just show you are available. Remember to only describe positive or appropriate behaviors.
Remember that descriptions are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
