Recognize the behavior:
Throwing a loud tantrum.
Identify what you want to see:
Using strategies to calm down when upset.
Use the Skill:
After your child is calm, you might say “I’m proud of you for calming down. Now, let’s try that again. When you clean up, then we can color.” Then give lots of praise.
-
Purpose:
-
A redo gives children a chance to do something again in a better way. In the middle of a tantrum, any attention could make the tantrum worse. After your child is calm, you can give them the chance to redo whatever caused the tantrum.
Remember that a redo is most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
