Recognize the behavior:
Throwing a loud tantrum.
Identify what you want to see:
Using strategies to calm down when upset.
Use the Skill:
Try to model calming skills when you are upset and when you see your child getting upset.
-
Purpose:
-
Modeling shows your child how to make good choices. Teach your child how to calm down when they are upset by modeling how you do it. Whether you get stuck in traffic, the restaurant sent the wrong food, or you have to do something you don't want to do, model a calming skill for your child. Let your child see you take deep breaths, go for a walk, and talk through your emotions out loud.
Remember that modeling is most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
