Effective commands tell your child that something needs to be done right now. Remember that your child should be able to follow a command within 5 seconds. If they are in the middle of playing, a command to leave now would be difficult. You might need to break down tasks into smaller pieces to help your child succeed. If you give a command, you should be ready to follow through with consistent consequences.
Remember that effective commands are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
