Using when-then & if-then statements for
Recognize the behavior:
Refuses to leave a friend’s house when it’s time to go home.
Identify what you want to see:
Saying goodbye and leaving the house.
Use the Skill:
Talk about what will happen after they listen. For example, “When we get in the car, you can pick the music.” “When your shoes are on, we can pick our next playdate.”

Purpose:

When-then & if-then statements show children what will happen when they make certain choices. Remind your child about the fun things that will happen when they finish tasks. This will make following directions easier.
Remember that when-then & if-then statements are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
