Difficult child behaviors:
What is it?
- Mealtimes often bring families together. But children can have a tough time with rules around mealtime. Some ways children might have trouble behaving at mealtimes include
- Not coming to the table when asked
- Stalling with their food or playing with it
- Refusing to eat certain foods
- Eating with their hands or with poor manners
- Jumping up and down out of their chair
- Crying, yelling, or screaming, possibly under the table
- Fighting or arguing with siblings
Where do they get this from?
- Some children have a hard time sitting still at mealtime because of their temperament. They might be very active, reactive, or have a shorter attention span.
- Some children are sensitive to different flavors or textures and may not like a lot of foods put in front of them.
- Some children may have a hard time having to follow so many rules and look for ways to take a little control for themselves.
