Using descriptions for
Recognize the behavior:
Hits or bites a sibling who took their toy.
Identify what you want to see:
Staying calm and asking for help when the sibling takes the toy.
Use the Skill:
When your child is playing calmly, describe their calm or gentle play. For example, “You got your magnets out.”

Purpose:

Descriptions can help children stay calm and be less aggressive. Remember to only describe positive or appropriate behaviors. Do not describe aggressive behaviors. Use your other strategies, like rules or when-then statements, when aggression happens. When you child is calm again, describe their calm behaviors.
Remember that descriptions are most helpful when you also use the other PC-CARE skills.
